TIRUPUR: Tirupur Corporation Mayor K Selvaraj has sent a legal notice to a woman who accused him of land grabbing. In the notice issued by advocate R Sivaprakasam, Selvaraj has sought `5 crore from petitioner R Samathal for causing damage to his reputation by lodging false land grab complaint against him. According to the notice, the false and baseless case filed against Selvaraj at Tirupur District Crime Branch was defamatory. It said Selvaraj was the mayor of Tirupur corporation and chairman of municipal council for the last five years. He has been in politics for over 30 years and has high reputation among the members of public.The notice stated that the complainant made defamatory and motivated allegations against him with vested interest. “The false case has spoiled his reputation and image irreparably. You have been making anonymous calls to my client over the phone and unlawfully demanding `50 lakh from him to withdraw the case,” it said.The notice also sought the withdrawal of the complaint and unconditional apology within 48 hours from the receipt of the legal notice.As per the complaint from Gandhi Nagar resident Samathal, seven persons had usurped her 13.75 cents of land with house at Mullai Nagar in Karumarampalayam here.
