CHENNAI: A police jeep bore the brunt of students’ wrath, after they were ticked off by police personnel for their behaviour in a bus on Kamaraj Salai on Wednesday.Trouble started around 1.30pm, when some students of Presidency College travelling by MTC bus 2A created a minor ruckus inside the vehicle. Distracted by the commotion, the bus driver stopped the vehicle near Labour Statue.  On seeing some police personnel, the driver complained about the behaviour of the students, assistant commissioner of police (Triplicane) S Senthil Kumaran told Express. The policemen asked the students to get off the bus and this led to a verbal altercation between them. On seeing some of their college-mates, the students pointed to two policemen and alleged that the duo had used abusive language against them. Denying the allegation as false, the ACP said the students started an argument with the policemen, claiming that they were just having fun and not travelling on the footboard or on the rooftop of the vehicle to be pulled up.The situation was defused after the office-bearers of the students’ union arrived at the spot, pacified the students and escorted them back to the college. However, one of the students picked up a stone and threw it at a police jeep parked nearby, shattering the glass pane. Sources said the police, however, chose not to press charges against the students in a bid to avoid escalation of tension.
