CHENNAI: N Arvind, a student of Mechanical Engineering (second Year), Velammal Engineering College, has set new records in swimming. He learnt swimming from his father who was a state champion in swimming. Arvind started his swimming career at the age of five. His dedication and hard work fetched him his first medal at the Nagarajan Memorial All India Invitation Swimming Competition held in Neyveli on July 9, 2000.  The second milestone in his swimming career was when he won medals at the State-level non medalist meet, 2001. Later, he represented Bethel Matriculation  Higher Secondary School (where he studied) and won numerous medals at the Madras District Meet. He is the first ever swimmer to have won the Individual Championships at the Inter School Meet conducted by the Sishya School three times in a row (from 2004-2006). He has won numerous medals which include 77 gold, 73 silver, and 39 bronze medals. He is also the three-times winner of the Individual Championships at the State meets conducted by the Tamilnadu State Aquatic Association. He has represented Tamil Nadu at the National Sub Junior Nationals, Junior Nationals and Senior Nationals Championships conducted by the Swimming Federation of India for nine years. He has also participated in the South zone  swimming competitions and won 28 gold, 19 silver and 15 bronze medals. He represented Tamil Nadu and participated in the All India School Games conducted by the School Games Federation of India and won five gold, three Silver and two bronze medals. Moreover, he has represented India when he was studying in the 12th standard, participated in the World School Games swimming meet held in Doha,  2009. He secured the 19th position in the world in the 100m back stroke competition. His swimming career has not affected his studies. He secured 1020 marks in the 12th standard. He has also won the Championship in All India life saving sports meet held at Chennai in January 2010. He has won four gold medals in the Malaysian youth Games conducted at Malaysia in August 2011.He has won a bronze medal in the All India inter university swimming meet conducted at Kolkata from October 17, 2011 to October 21, 2011. He recently won the best swimmer award in the All India inter-university swimming meet which was held at Bangalore from Jan 8 to Jan 11, 2012. It was conducted by Jain University.
