KADAPA: The recent suspension of some officials and doctors of NIMS, Hyderabad, and RIMS, Kadapa, has caused dismay to the medical community. RIMS superintendent Obulesu and resident medical officer (RMO) Sureswar Reddy were suspended on Monday for referring a murder accused, S Jayarami Reddy, to the NIMS, certifying that he was suffering from a heart ailment and needed expert treatment at NIMS, Hyderabad. They suppressed the fact that Jayarami Reddy, arrested in a murder case, was not suffering from any ailment.
It should be a lesson to those issuing medical certificates casually or for some other 'consideration' or under pressure, says a medical practitioner. It is no secret that influential people arrested in criminal cases or for any irregularities 'manage' to get medical certificates from government hospitals to evade staying in jails. Jayarami Reddy and others were arrested on July 25 for their alleged involvement in the murder of S Viswanatha Reddy and S Mahes Reddy at Nakkaladinne village in Chapadu mandal on July 23. Within a few hours of his arrest, Jayarami Reddy complained of ill health and got himself admitted to RIMS and was soon referred by RIMS doctors to the NIMS.
