A boy from Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh who has made a name for himself in swimming is shining in national-level swimming competitions. Darahas from Srikakulam told Local 18 that he learned to swim at the age of five in a summer course for fun. When the boy reached his seventh year, his coach Appala Naidu noticed that he was swimming better than his peers and thought it would be better if he could be coached better. The coach told his parents that he would make it big in his swimming career. They also encouraged Darahas.

He participated in many national and state-level swimming competitions and received prizes and certificates. Darahas has participated in state-level competitions thirteen times so far. He participated in national competitions nine times and won four gold medals, three silver medals and four bronze medals. When underwater finswimming was held for the first time in our country, Darahas, who participated in it, came first.

There are five disciplines in finswimming. Darahas took first place in swimming, cycling, running, shooting and fencing. The state-level Modern Pentathlon was held in Visakhapatnam where he took first place. At the national level, he took fifth place. Darahas, an international modern pentathlete, was selected to represent India in Portugal but could not travel to Portugal due to financial difficulties. Let us wish this future swimmer Darahas to participate in more competitions and come out on top.

Besides, China’s 19-year-old swimming phenom Pan Zhanle swam the fastest 100 metres in history on Sunday as he broke the men’s freestyle world record and established himself as a pacesetter ahead of the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Pan swam the 100 metres freestyle in 46.80 seconds in the preliminary heat of China’s 4×100 metres relay team that won the gold medal at the World Championships in Doha, beating the previous world record of 46.86 seconds held by Romanian teenager David Popovici.

“Breaking the world record was a no-brainer. My goal now is to swim even faster,” the Zhejiang-born swimmer told reporters after the swim.
