THODUPUZHA: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Ernakulam Range IG K Padmakumar held discussions with his associates on Tuesday about going ahead with the probe into the confessions made by CPM Idukki district secretary M M Mani. The SIT discussed various issues pertaining to the confessions of Mani, who had revealed the involvement of the party in eliminating its rivals. The discussion lasted for an hour. The police have already submitted an FIR against Mani at the Judicial First Class Magistrate Thodupuzha, which was transferred to the Adimaly court later. The FIR was registered against him for his statement that the party had prepared a list of 13 rivals in the 1980s and killed three of them. According to Mani’s statement, while one was shot to death, the others were beaten or stabbed to death. The police have also started collecting evidence in the murder of RSS activist Chullan Kuzhi Sunny at Bison Valley in 1992. Sunny was murdered in the aftermath of the murder of Mani’s brother-in-law K N Thankappan. Sunny was killed while returning from jail after visiting those who were arrested in connection with the Thankappan murder. The police have collected evidence from the late Sunny’s brother Thankachan. The cases regarding the 13 murders have been collected from the Crime Records Bureau and have been handed over to the SIT. The police have started collecting details from the relatives and the police stations under which the murders took place.
