THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Press Institute of India (PII) is organising a seminar on ‘Sensitising Journalists to the Issues Concerning Children’ at The Residency Tower, here, on September 22 and 23. The seminar, held in association with UNICEF, forms part of the United Nation’s thrust on achieving the Millennium Development Goals listed in its charter and the upholding of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The seminar will discuss the role of media in helping further the goals of CRC. Film maker R R Srinivasan will speak on the first day on the ‘Role of Photo Journalists in Protecting Child Rights’. S Ratish, operations director, Kerala Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency and Madhu Menon, editor, ‘Sudhinam’ will speak on the issues of sanitation affecting children and the legal framework for child protection in Kerala respectively. The day will conclude with a group work in which journalists will collaborate with R R Srinivasan. The second day will witness an open discussion where the participating journalists will give their suggestions and feedback. The group work to be coordinated by R R Srinivasan will also be presented to the audience. Seema Bhaskar, State director Mahila Samakhya, Kerala, Sugata Roy, communications specialist, UNICEF and P O George, human rights activist will speak.
