Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa gave away petrol-run scooters fitted with support wheels to self-employed and students with disabilities in their legs. She also gave away prizes to differently-abled students who had topped this year’s public examinations.
Jayalalithaa had earlier ordered officials of the Differently Abled Welfare Department to give away support wheel-fitted petrol-run scooters instead of battery-operated ones, during a review of the department’s schemes. An allocation of Rs 2 crore had been made towards this end. She presented these scooters to 61 self-employed and students with disabilities in their legs.
The Chief Minister also gave away prizes to those who had secured top three ranks in the Class XII and X exams among differntly abled students.
She presented Rs 50000, Rs 25000 and Rs 20000 respectively to the top three rankers among deaf and blind students in the Class XII public exams held this year.
She also presented Rs 25,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively to deaf and blind students who had secured the top three ranks in this year’s Class X examinations.
