New Delhi: He may not have played the lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's recent opulent saga of romance called 'Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela', but as Bhavani, the antagonist of the film actor Gulshan Devaiah has surely made heads turn.
The actor in a candid chat with IBNLive.com, revealed that how 'Ram Leela' is not at all a true adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' which the makers claim it is based on. "Of course, the basic frame of the film is same," explains Deviah, "But the writers Siddharth and Garima and Mr Bhansali have interpreted it their own way. It really doesn't have to be justify Shakespeare, anyway. Let's just say the film is Bhansali's 'Rome and Juliet'."
Devaiah states that he has been getting really good feedback for his role in the film. "Even though, in the first half of the film I am hardly there, but Bhavani's motives become clear only in the second half and that people have really liked. Messages have been pouring on social networking sites and I am happy as of now."
The actor who made his debut in Anurag Kashyap's 'That Girl In Yellow Boots' in 2011 has had an interesting palate of films on his resume. He has done commercial, 'massy' films like 'Hate Story' and 'Dum Maaro Dum', films for the multiplex audience like 'Shaitaan' and TGIYB and also a film like 'Peddlers' which never got a commercial release but was lauded at various international film festivals. The actor says that he chooses roles according to the role that's offered to him and also the script. "Lot of factors come into play when one selects a role. The director, the production house, the team, the story- all are considered. I'm just glad that such roles are coming my way."
Devaiah who is mostly seen playing an anti-hero in films says that he doesn't have the elements to play a Bhansali hero. "I love Ranveer Singh. He is a charmer, dances well, good actor and he fit the role of Ram well. I would have interpreted Ram in a different way. So I can't be a leading man of a Bhansali film. I can be a Pooja Bhatt hero or an Anurag Kashyap hero though."
The actor who is self confessed cinema lover, watches all kind of films (from David Dhavan's comedies to experimental 'Ship Of Theseus') and wants to be part of all kinds of films. He admits that there is always a fear of getting type cast but one should have the faith in one's abilities and only then can do better. "After 'Hate Story' I was offered several erotic films with Paoli Dam only," laughs Devaiah and adds "But I know I have to different roles and have the faith that different roles will come my way."
The actor has signed a two film contract with Pooja Bhatt's production house and will soon start working on one of the film called 'Cabaret'. Gulshan will next be seen in Phantom Films comedy 'Hunter' which has him the lead role opposite Radhika Apte.
The actor who started off as a fashion designer in Bangalore says he wants to be part of good cinema. He confesses that he would want to become a superstar but he wants his work to speak first and he is confident that eventually that will lead him to stardom. Amen to that!
