THENI: Madurai Aadheenam, who was on his way to the Kerala border to protest the action of the Kerala government on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue, was denied permission by the police and sent back from Theni district.Madurai Aadheenam was on his way from Madurai to join the agitation by the Mullaiperiyar Retrieval Movement at the Kerala border. He was travelling in a car from Theni when he was stopped by police personnel, led by ADSP Selvaraj at Palanichettipatti. He was told that he could not proceed further as there was a ban order enforced in Uthamapalayam area.While returning to Madurai, he told media that he had come to Theni to participate in the agitation to condemn the Kerala government’s action in refusing to implement the Supreme Court order and insisting on demolishing the Mullaiperiyar dam. The catchment area was under the rule of Meenakshi Amman of Madurai, according to historical records.He said that the Centre should dismiss the Kerala government which was defying the directive of the Supreme Court. Similarly, the government of Karnataka was also committing contempt of court over Cauvery issue. All these posed a danger to national integration and therefore, the Centre should nationalise all rivers, he said.Keralites and Tamils were living like brothers but Kerala government was spreading canards inimical to this brotherhood, he said and added that there was no doubt that the struggle of the Tamils in this problem would succeed.
