BANGALORE: Amidst fanfare and festivities, commuters thronged the Metro stations along the Reach 1 route to ride the Metro. While groups of dhol-beaters played the dhol outside Metro stations around 4 pm, thousands of people stood outside the station waiting to buy tickets for a joyride on Metro.After a grand inaugural run in the morning, where the high profile delegation rode to Byappanahalli and back, it was the turn of common man to ride along the 6.7 kilometre stretch in the evening on Thursday.“I travel every day in this route on the road. I want to see how long it takes in  Metro,” said Julia who boarded the second train from Byappanahalli to M G Road.Commuters waiting for the arrival of Metro cheered as the train arrived and clicked pictures enthusiastically during the 13-and-a-half-minute ride along the Reach 1 route. “It feels good to be on Namma Metro. I think I can use it regularly,” said Dayanand, a commuter, who boarded the train at Indiranagar.To mark the first day of Namma Metro’s commercial run, commuters were given a picture of the train along with a packet containing a bottle of water and some biscuits.Large crowd at MG Road stationThousands of people stood outside the M G Road station in long queue waiting to buy the ticket for a ride in Metro. To deal with a large number of people eager to travel by the Metro on the first day, the guards at the M G Road station only sent some people on to the platforms-just enough to ride the Metro. The rest were made to wait in the concourse area in the station.What can you find on Namma Metro?‘Sikka’ DispenserA facility to convert notes into change is placed at the M G Road station. Sponsored by UCO Bank, this machine is currently available only at the M.G.Road station. If you put a ten rupee note in the sikka dispenser, it converts it into coins usable as change anywhere.Emergency buttons on the metro trainA passenger device placed on top of the doors to help passengers talk to the driver in case of an emergency. In case of an emergency, passengers can press the button and a speaker phone is activated. A CCTV camera displaying only the passenger will appear at the Control Room. This device helps passengers communicate to the driver of the train under any unforeseen circumstances.12 IP CamerasThere are 12 IP cameras on each train monitoring the travel and passenger behaviour on the train. No one is allowed to eat or drink while on the train.
