New Delhi: India will be among a few parts of the world to get a celestial treat on Thursday when the September Full Moon undergoes a partial eclipse.

The partial eclipse will occur from 23.35 hrs (IST) of September 7 to 01.08 hrs (IST) of September 8 and it will be visible from all parts of India. Except for only a few places in Antarctica, Australia, Asia, Africa and Europe -- including the British Isles -- most parts of the world will miss out on this spectacle.

North Americans will be completely shut out of this event, as it will be happening during the daytime when the Moon is below the horizon. For people in Iraq and Afghanistan, the entire eclipse will be visible from start to finish beginning a few hours after moonrise.

The dark umbral phase is likely to last just about 90 minutes and at its maximum, the eclipse magnitude is likely to be only 19 per cent. It means dark shadow will create little more than a 'bite' out of the Moon's upper rim.

The next lunar eclipse will be a total eclipse on March 3 of next year and will be visible from Europe, Africa and western Asia.

The beginning of the umbral phase will be visible in New Zealand, Middle of Pacific Ocean, Eastern parts of Australia, Eastern parts of Japan and North-Eastern parts of Russia.

The ending will be visible in North-Western parts of Africa, Western parts of Europe, Ireland and Middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
