Catching Legendary Fish
Legendary Fish are fish that are very challenging to catch. There are 10 total Legendary Fish, but you can only catch 5 of them if you've got the Extended Family quest active. If the Extended Family quest is active, you'll only be able to catch Legendary Fish II. You must complete the quest to catch Legendary Fish, or catch the Legendary Fish before you start the Extended Family quest. Each fish has a fishing level requirement, except for the Mutant Carp and Radioactive Carp. Legendary Fish are noted by a crown on the fishing bar during the minigame. However, there is no crown when catching Legendary Fish II. If you find the Lost Book "Secrets of the Legendary Fish," it will tell you the seasons and locations of each Legendary Fish.
You can naturally catch only one of each Legendary Fish. However, there are three exceptions to this rule: using Challenge Bait, using a fish Pan, or playing in multiplayer. If you use Challenge Bait while fishing for Legendary Fish, you can catch up to 3 of the Legendary at the same time. If you can't get Challenge Bait, you can use Wild Bait to catch up to 2 fish at the same time. If you enchant the fishing Pan with the Fisher enchantment, you can use the Pan in the area where a Legendary Fish is caught before you catch the fish to get multiple copies of that fish. If you're playing in multiplayer, each player has a chance to catch each Legendary. That means you can catch up to four of each Legendary Fish if you have four players in a game.
You'll need to use items and level your fishing skill to catch all the Legendaries. Relying on pure skill alone may not be enough to catch the Legendaries, but there's also a fair bit of luck involved. Food: The best food to eat is Seafoam Pudding, as it increases your fishing by +4. However, you can also use Dish O' the Sea, Fish Stew, or Lobster Bisque if you don't have Seafoam Pudding yet (as these dishes all raise your fishing by +3). Rod: Use the best fishing rod you can get your hands on. Ideally, you'll use the Iridium Rod or the Advanced Iridium Rod as they can both equip tackle. Tackle: The best options are the Trap Bobber (which causes the progress bar to decrease more slowly when the fish isn't in the fishing bar) or the Cork Bobber (which makes your fishing bar bigger). You can also use the Curiosity Lure to increase your chance of finding Legendary Fish. Bait: Any bait is a good choice (except the Magnet). Using Challenge Bait or Wild Bait can increase the amount of fish you catch at once, and using Magic Bait negates any season, time, or weather requirements needed.

Legendary Fish Uses
Selling The best use for the Legendary Fish (if you don't want to keep them) is to sell them. Each Legendary Fish has a high price tag, so selling them will get you a lot of money, especially if you manage to catch a higher-quality fish.
Fish Pond You can put your Legendary Fish in a Fish Pond. This is a way to keep the fish and display it. Each fish also has a chance to produce 1 to 4 Roe each day. You must put each Legendary Fish in their own Fish Ponds. If you put a Legendary Fish in a Fish Pond, the pond's maximum holding size is 1 and cannot get any bigger.
Achievements Catching the first five Legendary Fish is required to get the Master Angler achievement. Legendary Fish II are not required to get this achievement.
Stardew Valley Fair If you want to score big at the Stardew Valley Fair, you can use a Legendary Fish in your Grange Display. A Legendary Fish will get you 6 points (8 if it's iridium quality).
Quests The first five Legendary Fish are not used in any quests, but you must catch Ms. Angler, Son of Crimsonfish, Glacierfish Jr., Legend II, and Radioactive Carp to complete the "Extended Family" quest that you can accept from Mr. Qi's special order board.
Dyeing All the Legendary Fish can be used to make dye. However, since Legendary Fish don't make a special dye, it's not a good idea to use them to make dyes. Regardless, here are the dye colors you can get from each Legendary Fish: Angler: Yellow dye Crimsonfish: Red dye Glacierfish: Blue dye Legend: Green dye Mutant Carp: Green dye Ms. Angler: Red dye Son of Crimsonfish: Red dye Glacierfish Jr.: Blue dye Legend II: Green dye Radioactive Carp: Green dye
Recipes All fish can be used to make three recipes: Maki Roll, Quality Fertilizer, and Sashimi. However, since Legendary Fish are so rare, using them to make these recipes is not a good idea. Using a Legendary Fish in a recipe doesn't make it any better than if you used a cheap, plentiful fish.
Gifting Most villagers dislike getting fish as gifts, including Legendary Fish. The exceptions are Evelyn, Haley, and Pierre, who hate fish as a gift, and Demetrius, Elliott, Leo, Linus, Pam, Sebastian, and Willy, who are neutral to getting fish as gifts. Since no villager loves fish as gifts, it's not a good idea to use a Legendary Fish as a gift.
