Islamabad: Days after Pakistan's disgraced nuclear scientist who black-marketed nuclear secrets was released from house arrest, sources say that Dr A Q Khan could be on a secret hit list of Mossad - Israel's ace spy service.
As six of his closest associates are already on that list, it is suspected that Khan could also be included by the Israeli agency.
A book on the Mossad called Gideon's Spies records how the agency began tracking the nuclear scientist after al-Qaeda's number three Khalid Sheikh Mohammad told US investigators in 2003 of a bomb plot.
Mossad told the US that Khan had travelled to Afghanistan to meet Osama Bin Laden. The book comes at a time when there are real fears that the proliferation network set by A Q Khan could be resurrected, given that his old associates are at large.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan government is considering filing an appeal against Islamabad High Court's verdict declaring Khan a 'free citizen'.
