CHENNAI: A three-day orientation and zonal training programme for the members of Youth Red Cross, organised by the Madras University and the Red Cross Society of India, began here on Wednesday. Organisers said that the programme, in which 80 students participated, would involve basic training in various spheres such as disaster management and personality development. Professionals from each of the areas and professors from various colleges affiliated to the University have been brought in to impart the training, which also included a session on emergency medical response. Inaugurating the programme, Vice Chancellor of the Madras University, Col G Thiruvasagam, spoke on the importance of personality development and the contribution that the youth could make for the betterment of the country.
