NSA Ajit Doval Likely to Visit J&K Today, MHA Asks States to Put Forces on Alert: 10 Developments
The Jammu and Kashmir government also imposed section 144, effectively restricting public meetings and rallies while internet and landline phone connections were shut down in various places.

The government on Monday moved a resolution to scrap Articles 370 and 35A, thereby taking away the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir. Announcing the decision in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Home Minister Amit Shah said there should be no delay in implementing the decision, even as the Opposition termed the move a “murder of Constitution”.

Here are the top 10 developments:-

1) Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the government intends to scrap Articles 370 and 35a, which grant special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The announcement led to massive uproar in Parliament.

2) The Congress accused the BJP of “murdering” the Constitution, even as the BSP, BJD and Shiv Sena extended their support to the government.

3) National Security Adviser Ajit Doval is likely to visit Jammu and Kashmir today amid massive troop presence in view of the government's decision.

4) Close to 8,000 paramilitary troops airlifted and moved in from Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Assam and other parts of the country to the Kashmir valley. Induction of troops continues.

5) Indian Army and Indian Air Force have been put on high alert, following revoking of Article 370 and other decisions announced by Government of India.

6) Earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. The Home Minister had on Sunday also held a meeting with top intelligence officials, including Doval and Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba in Delhi.

7) Section 144, which restricts public gathering of more than four people in an area, was imposed on the city from 6am today. "There will be a complete bar on holding any kind of public meetings or rallies during the period of operation of this order. It should be noted that there will be no curfew in place as reported in a section of the media," the order by the J&K government read.

8) Mobile internet services were shut down in many areas across the Valley. Landlines phone connections were also being blocked in many places.

9) Reacting to her house arrest, Mehbooba Mufti tweeted saying: "The world watches as people & their voices are being muzzled in J&K". National Conference leader Omar Abdullah also expressed his consternation over the uncertain situation and said, "we don't know what is I store for."

10) On Sunday, leaders of the mainstream political parties in Kashmir held an all-party meeting in Srinagar to discuss the prevailing situation in the Valley. Addressing the meeting after holding an all-party meet at his residence here, Abdullah requested people to maintain peace and said that leaders of all the political parties in the state were united in their "struggle to safeguard the special status of Kashmir".
