Israel: The new Israeli government headed by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, aims to renew peace talks with Palestine and resist the Iranian nuclear threat.
Olmert's senior aide Ra'anan Gissin outlined some of the main new policies that the new cabinet plans to implement. He said that the new cabinet would prefer peace talks with the Palestinians over unilateral moves.
The politically sensitive moves include a Palestinian crackdown on militants and a halt to Israeli settlement building in the West Bank.
In his speech, Gissin took a tough stand on Iran's nuclear programme.
He said, "We are going to participate with those countries in the world that are willing to join hands together in order to stop the Iranian nuclear threat. "
"Israel is not going to lead that campaign but definitely is going to take a very active role," he added.
