Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his wife Sadhna on Tuesday recorded their statements before a court in connection with the defamation case filed by the duo against Leader of the Opposition in state Assembly, Ajay Singh, for harming their reputation.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by his wife, arrived in the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM) Sanjay Pandey in Bhopal at around 11.30 AM amid tight security for recording their statements. The plaint-petition was filed in the court of CJM Pandey on July 12. It demanded damages to the tune of Rs one crore from the Leader of the Opposition.
The amount would be used to rehabilitate the families affected by recent tragedy in Uttarakhand, the petition added. Ajay, making corruption accusations against the couple, had reportedly dubbed Chouhan's wife as 'money counting machine' at a rally at Khargone on June 4 and Sagar on June 9 this year.
The baseless allegations were damaging as they were published in widely circulated dailies in the state, Chouhan said. Chouhan and his wife recorded their statements before the CJM and said that these charges have damaged their and their family's reputation. The court proceedings lasted for nearly an hour after which it fixed August 16 as the date for recording the statement of the respondents in the case.
