HYDERABAD: The government is exploring ways to generate about 1,000 MW of power by constructing a mini hydel power project utilising canal waters from irrigation projects, major and medium irrigation minister P Sudershan Reddy said.The Cabinet sub-committee consisting of Sudershan Reddy, revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy and IT minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah met at the Secretariat on Saturday and deliberated upon the issue of generating 1,000 MW of power by tapping canal waters from irrigation projects. The ministers have agreed in principle to utilise this potential.Later speaking to newsmen, Sudershan Reddy said that non-conventional energy department has prepared a report stating that there is a potential to generate 1,000 MW of power by utilising canal water flowing from the irrigation projects.
