BANGALORE: Accusing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of presiding over the most corrupt government since independence, BJP chief spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad said that the Centre lacks transparency, and a host of scandals have erupted due to lack of checks and balances.
Addressing the press here on Thursday, Prasad likened the present Union government to a rudderless ship, where the prime minister has no authority and the Gandhi family which wields real power has no accountability. "Manmohan Singh is acting like the proxy to Gandhi family. He is behaving more like the CEO of a company at the behest of the Gandhi family, which is its owner," he said."There is contradiction and oneupmanship within the government and the party is virtually disowning the decisions of the government which is crushing legitimate constitutional protests," he said.

Taking exception to the midnight police swoop on Baba Ramdev's peaceful agitation in Delhi recently, he said: "The action is one of the worst repressions unleashed on innocent people in free India who were protesting in the most peaceful manner."

Prasad asserted that as many as 70 people were injured when police teargassed the protesters. "The prime minister's statement that there was no alternative before the security forces is most shameful," he averred, while criticising Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for their silence over the issue.

He objected to Congress leader Digvijay Singh's comments against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj. "Singh who had visited the village of terrorists killed in the Batala House in Delhi after they had shot dead a police officer had shamefully called Baba Ramdev a thug," he said.
