New Delhi: Former Indian coach Greg Chappell believes the physical demands limited-overs cricket is increasingly making it a young man's game.
"All be it that the shorter the game gets, the more demanding it is from a physical point of view. It probably means it's going to become a younger man's game," Chappell, a former Australian captain, said.
Chappell, along with Ian Fraser, has been appointed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) Jaipur franchisee to run a Star Twenty20 programme.
After a nation-wide talent scouting process in the eight IPL regions, 24 trainees will be put through a training programme.
Over 8,000 applications were received for the programme, and the winning applicant will be awarded a contract with the IPL side, the Rajasthan Royals, for the 2009 season.
The Twenty20 tournament of the IPL will start from April 18.
Chappell quit as Indian coach following the disastrous show by the team during the World Cup in the West Indies last year.
India were knocked out of the tournament in the first round and Chappell’s handling of the team particularly the senior players came in for severe criticism.
He was seen as promoting youngsters at the cost of seniors.
