Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video clashed with Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina’s Jigra at the box office. Both movies hit the big screens on October 11. Now, the opening weekend box office numbers show that Raaj Shaandilyaa’s comedy film has outshined Vasan Bala’s crime fiction. Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video minted ₹18.8 crore over the opening weekend, whereas Jigra collected ₹16.8 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
With a long weekend, it was expected that the theatres would see a surge in sales and analysts anticipated a tough fight between the two films. It seems that the festive cheer has had no impact on the reach of these films, as there was no significant spike in the box office numbers.
As per Sacnilk, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video opened to ₹5.5 crore on Day 1, followed by a 25.45 percent growth with ₹6.9 crore on its first Saturday. On Sunday, it saw a slight dip from the Saturday numbers, minting around ₹6.4 crore.
On the other hand, Vasan Bala’s Jigra also had a slow start, earning ₹4.55 crore on Day 1, followed by a promising growth of 43.96 percent on Saturday. However, the action film is expected to appeal to a niche audience, with a lower Sunday projection of ₹5.7 crore.
Apart from Rajkummar and Triptii, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video has an impressive cast of Vijay Raaz, Mast Ali, Archana Puran Singh, Mukesh Tiwari, Saharsh Kumar Shukla, Archana Patel, Rakesh Bedi, Tiku Talsania and Ashwini Kalsekar.
Meanwhile, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video also made headlines for its alleged unauthorised use of a character from the Stree franchise. According to reports, the ghost from the popular horror-comedy franchise makes an appearance in the new film. The film’s director, Raj Shaandilyaa, has issued an apology for this. He stated that the makers will remove “all infringing content” related to the popular horror-comedy, which also stars Rajkummar Rao.
