Srinagar: The recently unearthed sex scandal case, involving former Jammu and Kashmir ministers and top security force and police officials, on Tuesday took an interesting turn when the lawyers for two accused informed the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Srinagar, that they will not plead their clients' case for bail.
As soon as the bail plea of the two accused, Shabir Kala and Mehrajuddin, came up for hearing in the court of the CJM, their lawyers informed the court that they cannot plead the case of their clients for personal reasons.
"We are withdrawing from the case," the lawyers informed the CJM, who accepted their plea.
Both the accused and their relatives pleaded that they should be allowed to argue their case.
The CJM accepted their plea and later fixed June 23 as the next date of hearing.
The two, arrested last month in the sex scandal case which rocked the Kashmir valley, had moved a bail application in the court of the CJM.
The Kashmir Bar Association (KBA) has directed its members not to plead the cases of those involved in the sex racket.
More than 20 people, including two former minister, a Deputy Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), a senior police officers and a woman kingpin, were arrested after the case was handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the state government following massive protests.
