BANGALORE: Stating that there is no data available on women entrepreneurs in the country, Dr Madhura Chatrapathi, founder-president, Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Karnataka (AWAKE), said that policies for the betterment of women entrepreneurs can be made only based on gender disaggregated data.Speaking at a roundtable conference on ‘Multiplying of Women Enterprises as Notable Economic Force’ organised by the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Karnataka, she highlighted the need for data capturing mechanism which will facilitate framing of pro-women policies. Though Minister for Large and Medium Enterprises, Murugesh Nirani, did not give a concrete solution to the lack of data entry system, he pledged the support of the Department of Industries and Commerce towards women entrepreneurship. He also urged women entrepreneurs to participate in mega projects and not just in small and medium enterprises in the state.Addressing the key question on the ways to increase women-led enterprises in the state, Maheshwar Rao, Director of Industries and Commerce, said that the state produces the maximum number of women engineers and that the number of women entrepreneurs is bound to increase in future.
