KRIDL to sink new borewells: BBMP chief

BBMP Commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda said sinking of new borewell would henceforth be entrusted to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL). In response to the queries raised by councillors on lack of drinking water, Gowda said due to insufficient rain, water problems had increased in the city.

“While the state government announced to grant Rs 25 lakh for every taluk and assembly, the BBMP allotted Rs 25 lakh per ward and another Rs 25 lakh for newly added wards. However, many councillors have not utilised the funds,” he said.

Gowda said many times in the council, the opinion is, KRIDL was not given work unless it was emergency. “As sinking borewell is an emergency work, the work will be entrusted with KRIDL,” he said.

“Councillors who are opposing that borewell work should not be given to KRIDL, I shall not give the work in your wards. The KRIDL will sink borewell only in wards, where its councillors have approved,” he said.
