Panaji: All traffic on the Konkan Railway route came to a standstill after heavy rains and landslide led to a safety wall collapsing on the tracks near Nivar station in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. The wall, which collapsed on Thursday night, was 60 meters long and six meters high.

Traffic on the Mumbai-Ratnagiri-Goa route has been hit with trains being stopped at various stations. Konkan Railway has arranged state transport buses to take passengers from Ratnagiri to Adawali.

The repair work is likely to take another 24 hours. Rains are also hampering repair work with authorities facing problems in moving heavy equipments.

The 60-metre-long safety wall was re-built in 2010 after it was washed away by rains. The Konkan region has witnessed incessant rains for the past three days

Konkan Railway Corporation Limited's (KRCL) public relation manager Baban Ghatge said trains have been stopped at various stations and work to clear off debris from the track was on.

Mumbai-bound trains were stopped at various stations in Goa while those arriving in the state were halted at Ratnagiri station due to the incident.
