Mumbai: A show that gave a new definition to detective shows on Indian television and introduced camera movements that kept you at the edge of your seat is back—with a new Kitty and the same old Karamchand.
"We have been very juvenile in our approach towards the rerun of Karamchand. We should have had far superior stories," says actor Pankaj Kapur.
"The channel should have been able to the supply the kind of money required to make it. Atleast 13 episodes should have canned before we went on air," he adds.
Karamchand came back with much fanfare and with equally high expectations in a medium that was dominated by saas-bahu serials.
The old Kitty was replaced by a new one and even friend Naseerudin Shah pitched in with a special appearance. But with dipping TRPs and low viewer interest, the show may go off air after just 11 episodes.
"It has to surpass the expectations of the viewers, that's a severe test," says actor Naseeruddin Shah.
"The impact has not even been an iota of what it could have been and there is no one else to be blamed but us," says Kapur.
It's a pity that today's youngsters didn't even get a chance to sample the comic genius that was Karamchand. The glory of that show now, will live on only in the memory of ardent fans of the original show.
