Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front(JKLF) chief Yasin Malik on Saturday started a 30-hour long hunger strike against the government's supposed rehabilitation programme for Kashmiri Pandits. He wants them to return to their original homes in the valley.
"We won't allow separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits. We want them to stay with other communities," JKLF chief said.
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had assured the Centre of providing land for a composite colony of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley, the separatist leadership called the move a 'conspiracy against Muslims'.
Malik had announced that his outfit will oppose the move to allot such settlements in Kashmir.
At present, there are about 62,000 registered Kashmiri migrant families in the country, who have moved from the Valley to Jammu, Delhi and other parts of the country after the state was rocked by militancy in 1989.
The BJP-PDP alliance in the state has mentioned rehabilitation of Kashmiri pandits in their common minimum programme.
