HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam, the main opposition party in the state, thinks that the `political immaturity and arrogance’ of YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy has placed it in an advantageous position, though temporarily, vis-a-vis its rivals Congress and YSR Congress.Eager to contest the by-elections to test the strength of its own and that of the YSRC the TDP hopes the Assembly speaker will accept the resignations of the 29 MLAs. It also wants to assess how the of the state are viewing the anti-corruption movement. The outcome of the by-elections, it thinks, will help it face the general election in 2014.The TDP is also not averse to moving a no-trust motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government. Though, the party has no plan to move the motion immediately, it may consider it when the Assembly is convened. This is to deflect the criticism from YSRC leaders that the Congress and the TDP colluded with each other to target Jagan. The party is pretty sure that the motion will be defeated going by the present strength of the Congress in the Assembly. The TDP is of the view that Jagan is making wrong moves politically and his arrogance made his MLAs resign, which may be construed as challenging the order of the High Court. “When the entire nation rose together against corruption, what will these MLAs explain to people in defence of a corrupt leader?” wondered a leader. “We will thoroughly expose the corrupt people in the coming days. We will take up a series of programmes to mobilise the support of people against corruption,” said party chief N Chandrababu Naidu.equally firm on exposing the ruling party, he said the Congress had no right to remain in power. But TDP leaders do not claim that the Kiran Reddy government slipped into minority after the resignations of 29 MLAs and will not fall on its own. Nor can it be dislodged by the TDP. Sources acknowledge that the government cannot be dislodged by the TDP. Even if the TDP musters enough strength and topples the Congress government it will not help the main opposition party. Instead, it wants the government to complete its full term in which case anti-incumbency mood the people will crystallise by the time next elections take place. It also wants the CBI raids on Jagan to continue so that he will become weak politically. In the meantime the TDP hopes to retrieve its lost ground to fight elections as a strong force. It also hopes the Jagan factor, CBI raids and inevitable by-elections will all divert people’s attention from the Telangana issue.
