Mumbai: A heated argument between two brothers, who were under the influence of drugs, turned lethal when elder brother hanged the younger one in Mumbai’s Bandra.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when Asif Shaikh entered into a verbal duel with his younger brother Riyaz over a monetary dispute. As the argument intensified, Asif tied a rope to the ceiling and hanged Riyaz, the police said. Both brothers were inebriated at the time of the incident.
Riyaz was then rushed to a private hospital by his mother, where he was declared brought dead.
The police reached the hospital after being informed about the death by the hospital authorities. Asif and his mother told the police that Riyaz had fainted, but could not explain the strangulation marks around Riyaz's neck.
"Initially, Asif and his mother lied that he fell unconscious and they were unaware as to how he died. The ligature mark around the neck of the body was visible. We had a doubt that both of them were hiding something," the police said.
However, the autopsy revealed that Riyaz had died due to strangulation, after which the mother son duo were questioned. Asif confessed to the crime and was arrested on Friday.
