THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has ordered a Vigilance inquiry into the alleged corruption in the handing over of State Data Centre to Reliance Company during the LDF Government’s term. There was also allegation that the than Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, who also handled the IT portfolio, had compromised the state security by allowing a private group to manage the government data centre in Thiruvananthapuram. The charge of the inquiry has been handed over to Vigilance DySP Reji Jacob. The decision to hand over the State Data Centre to Reliance was taken by the then Chief Minister Achuthanandan before the change in government. UDF leaders had alleged that as the data centre kept detailed information about all government offices and officials, it was a big security risk that Achuthanandan had taken by handing it over to a private player. The data centre was previously managed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing and Tata Consultancy Services. The change came after government agency National Informatics Centre expressed its unwillingness to host the state’s data.
