Panaji: Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik on Monday said the police would probe the links of the state transport minister's wife with a Hindu group suspected for an explosion that killed two of its members.
Addressing reporters at his residence, Naik said that everyone involved with the Sanatan Sanstha was being investigated. The Goa transport minister is Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar.
"We are probing everyone. We know that Jyoti Dhavalikar is a part of the institution although we do not know in which capacity. I have asked police to enquire," Naik said.
Sudin Dhavalikar is a Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) legislator and is a part of the Congress-led coalition government. Sudin's brother Deepak Dhavalikar is also an MGP legislator.
The Goa police on Sunday formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe a low-intensity blast in South Goa that killed two activists of a right-wing Hindu group on Friday night, officials said on Sunday.
Two activists of Sanatan Sanstha were killed in Margao town when explosives being ferried in their scooter went off in a traffic jam.
The group, which claims on its website that it "spreads the science of spirituality and guide seekers in their spiritual practice", denied any involvement in the blast.
"We are not a terror organization. There is some kind of a conspiracy to implicate us in the Goa terror case," said a Sanatan Sanstha office-bearer and spokesman, Abhay Vartak at a media gathering in Panvel (Raigad district), around 100 km from Mumbai.
Emphasising that the Sanatan Sanstha was a socio-cultural organization, he said that it was being targeted for protesting the desecration of an idol in Goa.
"We were not involved in any manner with the Goa blast and none of our members have been arrested so far in connection with the incident," Vartak said.
The Goa government is considering banning the organisation, Chief Minister Goa Digambar Kamat has told CNN-IBN.
