The final day of Ganesh idol immersion turned sour when a devotee died on the spot due to heart attack while dancing to the tunes of the drum beats at Hussaini Alam here on Saturday.
He has been identified as Srikanth, a resident of Kabutar Khana. Also, five persons got electrocuted at Rajendranagar in Attapur here on Saturday when they were a decorating a truck for the Ganesh idol immersion procession. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital. Two were discharged after being given first-aid but the condition of the remaining three is said to be critical.
Meanwhile, the main procession, which begins from Balapur in the Old City, commenced late forcing an overall delay in the procession timing. The procession started at 11 am from Balapur, prompting an overall delay to the tributary processions, from Falaknuma, Shalibanda, Charminar, Patherghatti and Moazzam Jahi market, on to the lake. The Balapur Ganesh idol, which marks the tail-end of the main procession, also crossed the Moazzam Jahi market junction evening.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Ganesh idol carrying-trucks were lined up en route Hussain Sagar for the delay.
They were kept waiting for their turn to come. At Hussain Sagar, authorities have deployed 28 huge cranes to immerse the bigger idols additional to which, about 100 divers have been kept on standby to prevent any untoward incident.
Keeping the view of the falling of the Telangana March and the Conference of Parties (CoP-11), on two consecutive days, the police have made elaborate arrangements in the entire city.
However, the huge turnout for the immersion gave some tough moments to the police personnel pressed in for the maintenance of law and order. However, the police managed to prevent any untoward incident to happen.
