Farmers from Tamil Nadu stage stir demanding river interlinking

New Delhi: A group of farmers from Tamil Nadu staged an agitation here today demanding that the Centre take steps for interlinking rivers in the country.

According to Ayyakannu, Tamil Nadu president of National South Indian River Interlinking Agriculturists association, about 200 farmers took part in the agitation. Interlinking of rivers is vital for improving the livelihood of agrarians, he added.

Later, the agitators met Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and discussed issues concerning the farming community.
