BANGALORE: With the workers of microenterprises, the first group of 20 Ewaste Recyclers enrolling for the National Pension Scheme (NPS), the Goripalya slum has become a witness to another technological transition in the city.This scheme has been implemented under the framework of partner organisations of German Development Co operation (GIZ), Department of Labour, and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPC), who are partners of GIZ SSPK and GIZ ASEM respectively.Bangalore, was the first city in the country to have the association of EWaste recyclers in India. This was followed by the first formal ewaste recycling unit being set up in the city and the first formal recycling unit also being launched in India.Other unorganised workers of Goripalya were also enrolled for the NPS Lite Scheme. In the following weeks, mass enrollment for social security schemes will be introduced.The introduction of the scheme has generated awareness among the Ewaste Recyclers about the benefits and advantages of adopting formalised approach for recycling.Among the other present during the occasion were K M Nagaraj, senior environmental officer, KSPCB, Munovar Khan, president of Jamia Masjid, Ghori playa .
