DHENKANAL: A worker was electrocuted on the Bhusan Steel Limited (BSL) premises here on Sunday. He has been identified as Pratap Bhutia (19) and a resident of Dharampur village in Angul district. He was working as an electrician at the steelmaking shop of the plant.Police said Pratap Bhutia died of electrocution while on duty. Though he was rushed to the district headquarters hospital, he was declared brought dead.Following the incident, around 400 villagers and members of Bhushan Steel Shramik Congress Union (BSSCU) staged a demonstration before the BSL gate demanding compensation for the bereaved family.Conceding their demand, the BSL management paid Rs 70,000 for Bhutia’s cremation.BSSCU secretary Dilip Rout said the management had further promised Rs 5 lakh under the Workmen’s Compensation Act and a job for Bhutia’s legal heir.An FIR has been registered by Bhutia’s father.
