MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the High Court, which admitted the appeal of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case in which three employees of Dinakaran were burnt to death when the office was set on fire, directed the Registrar of the court to list the appeal for hearing.

Protesting this publication, a mob raided the daily's building on MaduraiMelur Road on May 9, 2007, and hurled petrol bombs into the office, setting the entrance on fire. Two employees, Gopi and Vinodh, and a watchman, Muthuramalingam, were charred to death in the attack. Othakadai police registered a case and charged 17 people, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajaram who was on security duty but failed to prevent the tragedy. Among the others charged was Attack Pandi. Later, the case was transferred to the CBI.A Madurai court which tried the case acquitted all the accused on December 9, 2009, holding that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against them.
