BANGALORE: The residents of Horamavu Ward have been facing a lot of issues due to poor infrastructure. If the pothole-riddle Junction road near Hrushi Medicals is anything to go by, it seems that Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has forgotten about its responsibility to ensure basic infrastructure at many areas of Horamavu Ward. The stationary vehicle of a garbage contractor has become a hurdle for four-wheelers and two-wheelers at the junction. According to the residents, the vehicle was parked a few months ago and no effort has been made to remove it from the junction yet. “The BBMP authorities have neglected this area. I have to bring the gravel on my own to fill the potholes at the junction. We have complained to the BBMP authorities about the prevailing condition of the roads, but in vain,’’ said R Nagesh of Hrushi Medicals. The stray dogs are an another nuisance in and around Horamavu. The residents complain that stray dogs prowl on the road in the night. “We have to be extra cautious while walking on the streets. We have complained to the BBMP authorities about the stray dogs’ menace but they are yet to visit our area,’’ said a housewife on condition of anonymity. The place reserved for Rashtra Kavi Kuvempu Bus Stand is also being misused by some people. A few truck owners have been using this place to park their vehicles, thus leaving no place for BMTC buses. There are many streets that lack street lights. Also, the residents are facing lot of problems due to acute shortage of drinking water. “The BBMP has not replaced the fused bulbs and have not taken measures to repair the borewells. This has been causing a lot of inconvenience to the residents,’’ said R Prakash, president, Horamavu Ward Congress Committee. The road between Agara and Horamavu needs a few humps to control the speeding vehicles. “Two dogs died and two people were injured by the speeding vehicles. We have requested the BBMP to put up a hump on the road to prevent such accidents,’’ said Ajin K P, a resident. However, Coroporator, Tejaswini N Raju, said, “Horamavu Ward requires more funds from the BBMP to take up development works since it was one of the newly added wards.”Areas such as Nagreshwara Nagenahalli, Kottnur, K Narayanapura, Geddalahalli, Amani byrathikhana, Horamavu Agara, Chalkere, Banjara Residency, Asirwad Colony, M Visvesvaraya Nagara, Muneshwara Nagara, Yerrayana Palya, Bovi Colony, parts of Ramamurthy Nagar, BSV Reddy Layout, Apparao Layout, Dasappa Layout, Krishnareddy Layout, Papamma Layout, Mukkutam Nagara, Vigneshwara Layout, Ramaiah Layout, Kalumantapa, Munireddy Layout, Nandanam Colony, Anjanappa Layout, Nanjappa Garden, Bank Avenue, Babu Sahib Palya, Vijayalakshmi Colony, Kyalasanahalli are the important localities in Horamavu Ward.Corporator Tejaswini further added, “The BBMP had dug 54 borewells, of which 17 failed to yield water. Last year, the BBMP had taken up development works with an estimated cost of ` 9 crore. Many roads were also asphalted last year. The ward needs more funds to asphalt all the roads and strengthen open drains and ensure sufficient water.”
