Delhi's Heatwave String To Continue Today Despite Rain Cameo, AAP To Discuss Water Crisis | Updates
Heatwaves will be reported in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, several places in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on Thursday, IMD said

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the heatwave conditions will continue to prevail in Delhi on Thursday, despite the brief rain session when the city reportedly recorded India’s highest-ever temperature.

According to the IMD’s latest forecast, the maximum temperature in the National Capital Region (NCR) is likely to touch 45 degree Celsius accompanied by gusty winds.

On Wednesday, the mercury soared to 52.9 degrees Celsius at Mungeshpur weather station, a reading the IMD said could be an outcome of faulty sensors.

On the other hand, some relief can be expected from tomorrow, as the weather department has predicted a partly cloudy sky, with very light rain/drizzle accompanied by gusty winds (speed 25-35 kmph).

Delhi Weather Forecast Today

Severe heatwave conditions accompanied by dry weather will continue in many parts of the country till June 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said adding that prevailing conditions will gradually reduce over Northwest and Central India in the next 2–3 days.

Heatwaves will be reported in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, several places in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, according to the weather department.

Delhi Records Over 52°C? Here’s What IMD Says

The highest temperature in Delhi’s Mungeshpur on Wednesday touched 52.9 degree Celsius, a 79-year high record. However, the IMD said the reading could be due to some fault in the sensors and was likely inaccurate.

While Delhi’s primary weather station Safdarjung observatory recorded a maximum of 46.8 degree Celsius, the weather officials in the city were left baffled when Mungeshpur reported 52.9 degrees prompting the IMD to examine the automatic weather station in the locality for possible errors in its sensors.

Meanwhile, Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju informed that a temperature of over 52 degrees Celsius in Delhi is very unlikely.

AAP To Hold Review Meeting on Water Shortage in Delhi

Amid claims that Haryana stopped releasing water to the national capital, Delhi Water Minister Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj will hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss water shortage.

The minister also accused Haryana of not releasing Delhi’s share of water since May 1 and said that if the issue is not resolved soon, Delhi will approach the Supreme Court.

In the first clear indication of a serious water crisis in Delhi, which is largely dependent on neighbours Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to meet its soaring water demands, Atishi appealed to the people to not waste water.

Kerala Reels With Heavy Downpur As North Sizzles

The India Meteorological Department revised its rain updates and sounded an orange alert in seven districts on Wednesday as heavy downpours continued to lash the state leading to waterlogging in major cities including the capital Thiruvananthapuram.

The districts of Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode were placed under yellow alert, according to the latest IMD update.

Continuous downpours and gusty winds in the last two days caused widespread destruction and crippled normal life in the coastal Alappuzha district as well.
