New Delhi: Delhi Assembly Elections are very close and the voters of the city want to know how many poll promises have their leaders fulfilled. IBN7 has started a campaign New Delhi Banao (Develop New Delhi) and is trying to raise awareness among the voters.
IBN7 went to Shahdara constituency to know what changes have been taken place in past five years. Shahdara has a population of 2 lakh with 1.70,000 voters. The locality has two large industrial areas but both are in very bad condition. Local councilor Preeti was surrounded by the local resident when she arrived in the area with most of the people complaining about shortage of drinking water, which was not even fit to drink.
In colonies like Jwala Nagar residents have been forced to use hand pumps to tide over the water crisis. Ramesh Kumar, a resident, said that the area has not received water supply for the last several years and so they have been forced to use hand pumps.
MLA Dr Narendra Nath admitted that the area faces water shortage but added that it is the same in area parts of Delhi. He claimed that he was in talks with the state government to resolve the water crisis and added that the area faced some more problems.
One such problem is the open sewer in the area. Polluted water comes in the sewer from Northeast Delhi which emitted foul smell. The open drain also led to many accidents.
The problems are raised during every election. In the last election, BJP candidate Jitendra Singh Shanti had promised to resolve the problem but said that the people voted for his opponent. Singh promised that if he won this time, he would solve all the problems.
