KOCHI: Continuing with the probe into the phishing case in which cyber fraudsters siphoned off Rs 11.5 lakh from the bank account of a city doctor, the police on Sunday verified the laptop used by the doctor. The investigation team has made a preliminary picture about the modus operandi of the fraudsters. They must have created a fake website of the bank where the doctor holds an account. He must have entered his login details for net banking, including the login, password and banking PIN on the fake website, officials said. The police are also checking the possibility of the victim falling prey to phishing e-mails or some malware. Currently, the probe is being carried out by a team of officials from the Central police with the assistance of the Cyber Cell. The police have already recorded statements of the victim, the bank officials and the mobile phone operators. The probe has revealed that the money, stolen from the account, has been transferred to people outside the state. In view of this, the investigators will request support from the police in other states.
