MADURAI: Parents of the two Narikudi school boys, who were accused of threatening a teacher with murder, alleged that the police did not inform them about the detention of their wards. It was only after other students informed the villagers that Pandiammal, mother of one of the students Mari, had come to know about the detention of her son. “The police did not inform us about the incident. While I was working in Ramanathapuram, the villagers informed me over phone around 7 pm yesterday. Immediately, I rushed to the village, but I am yet to see my son,” said Pandiammal, a daily wage labourer from Maraiyur. In the case of the other student, his father Alagumalai, a widower, was at work in Ramanathapuram when the police apprehended his son. He too had learnt about his son’s detention only through relatives. While Narikudi inspector S Shanmugam claimed that he had informed the parents, school authorities gave a contradictory reply saying that they couldn’t communicate with the boys’ parents as they did not have their contact numbers.
