New Delhi: China has launched a new navigation satellite in the Sichuan Province as a part of the "Compass" navigational system.
The satellite, which is intended mainly for public security, is also expected to be helpful in tracking petroleum prospects and forest fires, and improving disaster management programs.
The satellite will cater to China alone for now, but by 2008 it will be expanded into a global network.
