BHUBANESWAR: The BJP on Sunday condemned the manner in which the CB investigated the alleged Pipili gangrape case. It submitted chargesheet exonerating the culprits, the party charged. “The plea of the police that the FIR did not contain any details of rape does not extinguish the possibility of rape that could be corroborated on circumstantial evidence and the statement of the victim,” BJP spokesperson Ashok Sahu said in a statement. The circumstantial evidence available at the relevant time has been overlooked by the police and the statement of the victim is yet to be taken by the investigating officers, Sahu said. He further alleged that the police and the doctors deliberately overlooked the injury marks on her person. She slipped into a coma after she was subjected to physical violence. There was sufficient time for the investigating officers to verify whether the girl was subjected to physical abuse when she was admitted in the SCB Medical College and Hospital for the first time, he said. The girl was in the hospital till December 14. As the victim is not able to speak and being the only witness to a previous crime, the investigation by ruling out rape is prejudiced in favour of the perpetrators of the crime, Sahu said. “Had police not been prejudiced they could have said an additional chargesheet would be filed only after the victim recovers from coma,” he said.
