BELLARY: CBI sleuths who are camping in the district to probe illegal mining by Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) and Associated Mining Company (AMC) owned by the Reddy brothers, on Tuesday continued their raids on the residence and offices of Reddy’s associates, besides some mining firms in Bellary, Hospet and Sandur regions.The CBI teams were searching for evidence of illegal transportation and alleged nexus of other companies with Reddys.The raids were being carried out in keeping with the recent directions of the Supreme Court in connection with the mining activities of AMC owned by former minister G Janardhana Reddy and his wife Lakshmi Aruna, and also the Deccan Mining Syndicate belonging to one Rajendra Jain.CBI officials, swung into action early in the morning and carried out searches, besides verifying documents and records at JSW Steel premises at Torangallu in Sandur taluk and office and residences of Vnag Mines, in Bellary.Sources said that the CBI team verified the documents on the JSW premises besides quizzing its executives on the second day on Tuesday with regard to the extent of iron ore transported from AMC.According to the Lokayukta final report, lakhs of tonnes of iron ore were supplied from AMC to Jindal Steels.Officials were busy ascertaining the extent of the ore transacted, and transport operators were also questioned in this regard.In Hospet, the raids were also conducted at the office of ILC Mining Company and residence of its owner Somashekhar and partners, besides mining firms like Janadevi Minerals, B M K Mines, Hayavadana Mines and Vijaya Mining Companies.Four teams of CBI sleuths came in five vehicles and conducted searches from 8 am to 7 pm.The raids are expected to continue for a few more days in the district.
