Shilpa Shetty's grace in Big Brother has increased interest among British Indian men in marrying Indian women.

London: It is reported in Britain that Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty's grace in the reality TV programme Big Brother has increased interest among British Indian men in marrying Indian women.

As a spokeswoman for leading international Asian matrimonial service, Shaadi.com, Geeta Srivastava, told the Eastern Eye newspaper: "It is an obvious result that her win will make Indian or South Asian women very attractive as life partners. Shilpa has demonstrated some amazing qualities such as grace, elegance and poise that make a South Asian woman unique".

Geeta has not been alone in her opinions either, and her comments were backed up by Parag Bhargava, who is the co-owner of the London-based Suman Marriage Bureau.

He told the Eye that: "While modern Indian women are not submissive, they generally hold on to their cultural identity... Shilpa only really stressed the point how well-rooted Indian women are in their culture and hence better at keeping the peace and calm".

The British representative of Bharat Matrimony, a marriage service that is said to have an astonishing nine million registered users, a Subramani, said, "There may still be a question over whether Shilpa won due to the controversy generated by the racist bullying or because of the well-mannered and cultured woman she is. Whatever the reason, she has shown Indian women in a very, very nice light, which will generate a lot of interest in Indian women in the marriage market.

“Even though she is a very glamorous Bollywood actress, she still portrayed a very homely culture. She came across very much like what a normal Indian girl would be like. British Asian boys, especially, will see how well-rounded Indian women are and will be much more keen to marry someone from back home".

Meanwhile, it is also reported that Shilpa's mum, Sunanda, is more than a little interested in finding her daughter a suitable husband. According to a friend of the family: "Sunanda is looking for someone who is wealthy and of Indian descent". No surprise there, then.

And, while that search is underway, Shilpa herself has a very lucrative time ahead. According to the Eastern Eye, she has already had offers to star in a BBC comedy written by Sanjeev Bhaskar, host a cricket reality show, and star in a Spanish feature film. Overall, she is estimated to make more than one million pound by the end of 2007 - and all as a result of that now infamous TV show.
