KOCHI: Sivaprasad S, a Class XI student of Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara, Kochi, secured the prestigious Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) scholarship, funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to encourage students of basic sciences, engineering and medicine to take up research careers in these areas. The aim of the programme administered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bangalore) is to identify and encourage talented students with aptitude for research. The KVPY entitles a recipient to earn a scholarship ranging from `4,000 to `7,000 per month right up to the PhD level. This spectacular achievement comes close on the heels of nine Class VIII students of the school qualifying for the second round of the NTSE. Six students of the school had won the NTSE scholarships last year.
