BANGALORE: Newly-elected Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy ‘inadvertently’ broke traffic rules on the very first day of assuming the office as the first citizen of the city.Around 4 pm, the Mayor, along with others, arrived at M G Road to pay tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. After garlanding the statue, his convoy violated traffic rules not just by going on one way but also jumping the signal. The Mayor was accompanied by Chairman of the Standing Committee on Administration H R Krishnappa. When Express spoke to him, Krishnappa denied that the Mayor had violated traffic rules.“We first garlanded the Mahatma Gandhi statue, and left the premises soon.We did not violate any traffic rule,” he claimed.Traffic cop Imtyaz Ahmed who was manning the traffic was baffled as the signal was green near Queen’s Statue, but the Mayor’s convoy jumped the signal and blocked vehicles coming from M G Road which were given a green signal
