Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu said on Thursday the state government was committed to its develop villages by rendering basic amenities and strengthening the panchayat raj system.
Patrudu said that work of construction of black tar roads, metal roads in villages would be taken up by the Panchayat Raj department, funded by the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in a phased manner.
He said that nearly 3.80 crore population of the state live in villages under 12,800 panchayats. In the current fiscal year, nearly 2500 kilometres roads in the state would be converted into black tar roads, while another 4,000 kms gravel roads will be developed into metal roads, besides repairing nearly 2,000 kms black tar roads, the minister said.
He said that the Vigilance and Quality wing of Paycnhayat Raj department would keep a check on quality of work and contractors' bills will be paid based on the certification of Quality Control wing. "The 13 districts of the state will be divided into four zones and sufficient staff including, divisional engineer, executive engineer and other staff will be provided to the quality control wing," he said. He also said that the government will sanction Rs 13 lakh for construction of the panchayat building in every panchayat.
To meet the challenge of providing adequate drinking water, he said the state requires 155 TMC of water and for the purpose the state government will establish water grid with a budget of Rs 30,000 to 40,000 crore and the project will be completed in next five years.
Coffee plantation would also be developed in two lakh hectares land in tribal areas, he said.
