The Aligarh Muslim University authority has restricted entry of outsiders to campus and asked students and staff members to produce identity card at all entry points.

"The restriction has been imposed to keep a check on anti-social elements, who in the past had frequently sneaked into the campus and posed a threat to the law and order situation here," AMU Proctor Jamshed Siddiqui told PTI. Security on the campus has been beefed up since last week, after a speeding car hit AMU Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen. (retd) Zameer Uddin Shah's bicycle, injuring him.

All university employees and students had been asked to procure their identity cards to ensure hassle free entry to the campus, Siddiqui said, adding that ban on motorcycles inside university hostels would be enforced effectively. He said day scholars who attend classes in different faculties are permitted to bring their vehicles which will be parked at designated parking lots. They will, however, have to procure a vehicle pass for this purpose.
